Writing Without A Net 2026

Our Workshop

Join us at Sunset Lodge on beautiful Lake Damariscotta in Midcoast Maine for 5 days and discover your story. Each day we will have two 2.5 hour writing sessions— one morning session and one in the late afternoon—leaving free time in between to write, to wander, to canoe, to dream…
Sessions will include writing exercises and prompts to get our hearts and minds limber and opportunities for sharing our work with each other.

Our Instructor

More than 30 years of teaching writing workshops to people of all ages has helped Amy Friedman to learn not only how to conquer writers’ demons but how to teach people to work and play at the same time. She will guide you to be gentle enough with yourself to stay steady yet strong and brave enough to plow ahead, through what sometimes feel like impossible roadblocks.

Author and ghostwriter of 25 memoirs and thousands of personal essays, Amy’s books include Desperado’s Wife: A Memoir, One Soufflé at a Time, with Anne Willan; Kick the Dog and Shoot the Cat, the children’s books Tell Me a Story and the Spectacular Gift; and she is editor and curator of 10 books from Out of the Woods Press, among others. Amy lives in Los Angeles and has taught memoir classes at UCLA Extension (where she was a recipient of the UCLA Extension Outstanding Instructor Award in Creative Writing); Idyllwild Summer Program; Case Western Reserve University and more. She is currently producing the immigration project All-American Story.
